Lawyers

6.1 – How to Become a Lawyer

Lawyers are accredited and approved to practice law to represent clients in a court of law providing a service for their expertise and knowledge of the law.

Lawyers are not employed directly by the government or courts, operating privately and often within a business or law firm.

All accredited lawyers will hold a active Bar Association card issued by Aurora City Court (ACC).

Lawyers must carry this card at all times when practicing law including but not limited to;

  • Visiting a client

  • Attending court

  • Business related meetings

There are no exceptions to this if you have lost your card you may visit the City Hall and order a replacement from the legal clerk.

6.2 – Background Checks

Upon successfully completing the bar exam your file will be sent to the judges. A background check will then be conducted on your profile which includes a criminal history check.

Note if you have a indictable offense on your file or you have been to prison you will not be eligible to practice law and your application will be denied.

If you at any time after passing your application commit a indictable offense or am sent to prison a debarment will be conducted and you will no longer be able to practice law.
